Titans #21 is pretty awful. I’m not sure what Dan Abnett’s endgame is here but the man has long been one of my favorite writers. I was hoping for an upturn in story but, instead, this issue made this whole plot line just feel worse. Where oh where has my Dan Abnett gone?

The plot continues to revolve around Arsenal who I’m going to call Speedy for the rest of the review. Speedy knows of a sinister plot to take over the world but no one believes him because he’s an ex-junkie who got tricked into (sort of) using again.  So what is Speedy going to do?  If his friends won’t help him, if the Justice League won’t help him, then he’ll just do it alone!

Does that mean he’s going to kick the crap out of his friends who came to help him?  Yup. So there’s a big fight between Speedy, Flash, and Nightwing. I’m sure kicking the shit out of your old teammates will really convince them you aren’t on the meth, Speedy!

Reading this book makes me very disappointed, especially with Abnett’s writing.  Paul Pelletier’s artwork is pretty outstanding so I can’t say the look is killing the book. Beyond Speedy’s backward baseball cap look, this issue is pretty damn stunning.

If there’s a point to this I hope this all wraps up super quickly and we can get back to some Titans.  I don’t have much to say about this issue because I find this storyline atrocious.  The Speedy Show has been quite awful and there’s not too many more issues before I drop this all together.
