As Ninjak Vs #2 hits I can’t help thinking back to NYCC when I was so excited to see the live action footage. I got to NYCC, missed the panel, and missed the footage. When the first issue of the comic adaptation hit I got really excited. Between the first issue and now?  The huge shakeup at Valiant that has me really scared for the company’s future. Ninjak Vs may end up being the only media put that was brought together from the help of the original Valiant team. I now fear the upcoming Bloodshot film will follow the Disney formula and we will all be treated to “the funniest Bloodshot ever!”

I’ll digress. Ninjak Vs #2 has Ninjak on the run after stealing a precious artifact from MI-6. The item is so priceless that Livewire has to call every single Valiant hero she knows to help recover it. They reveal what Ninjak stole and it really is a doozy: the Book of the Geomancer. Ninjak now only has to deliver the item to those who are forcing him to steal it.

Except Livewire has called the big guns in to retrieve MI-6 property. Eternal Warrior, Bloodshot, and X-O Manowar have all honed in on Ninjak and, while they don’t want to hurt him, they know what needs to be done. They need this precious artifact back.  Is it possible?

Ninjak tries to take on these heroes one by one and he usually has enough tricks up his sleeve to be able to take them out. At least usually when he is one on one. But with everyone coming after him you get the feeling that Ninjak’s fight will be limited when facing all of these big guns.

If the webseries is anything like this comic, the webseries is going to be the most insane original content ever put out on the web.   The story that Aaron Schoenke wrote for the webseries is incredible and Eliot Rahal’s adaptation really brings out the screenplay’s intensity.   This book reads so damn well and Joe Bennett’s artwork hits it right out of the park. If this was just an issue of Ninjak it would be remembered as one of the best thus far. But as this is an adaptation I doubt it’ll get the recognition it deserves.  Which is a damn shame.

Ninjak vs the Valiant Universe #2 delivers the goods.  It’s a massive adventure that has thrills at every turn. Insanely good may not even cover how great this book is. If the webseries turns out so-so (fingers crossed it is excellent) then we at least have the story told perfectly in comic form. This is a series not to be missed and really is a Valiant book that blows away all expectations.  VERDICT: Must read.
