I had never heard of Raven the Pirate Princess when a press release and some preview pages landed in my mailbox. Press releases I get by the boatload and I’ll usually only post them for films/comics/whatever that I’m personally really interested in. So ordinarily I would push a press release to the side.  However there were several interesting things about this press release and art that caught my eye. Raven the Pirate Princess is touted as the only young adult comic series about a teenage lesbian pirate’s quest for love and vengeance. So yeah…what isn’t to love about that premise?!?!?! I looked and saw that Jeremy Whitley is writing it – which is so incredibly cool. The huge selling point was Xenia Pamfil’s gorgeous artwork. I dig it. I dig it a lot.

So? So here’s the press release and preview pages for Raven the Pirate Princess Year Two #1 which is landing in October. If the book is anywhere as good as these preview pages…I’ll be damn happy.

RAVEN is a pirate revenge adventure, a soap opera full of messy teenage love stories, and about a dozen coming of age stories set on the high seas. Think “Legend of Korra” at sea with an all female cast.
This series has one of the most diverse and exciting casts of any comic on the market. It’s full of action, adventure, and revenge – but even more full of love stories and soap operas. RAVEN is one of the first YA comics with an openly gay leading lady. But on top of that it has a cast of women who represent a wide spectrum of the LGBTQ community. It’s equal parts soap opera and actual opera.

Writer Jeremy Whitley hopes readers experience “Joy, connection, and love” when reading this book. He goes on to say that “It’s a book where different types of people are heroes than what we’re used to, especially in YA fiction. I feel like everybody should be able to find at least one character they either relate to or fall in love with in the pages of this book.”

Jeremy Whitley follows up by saying, “RAVEN: PIRATE PRINCESS is back and it’s bigger, more action packed, and packed full of feels than ever. This is the perfect place to pick the series back up or jump on for the first time!  We can’t wait to be back to talking to you about it on twitter!”

PRINCELESS: RAVEN, THE PIRATE PRINCESS YEAR 2 #1 will be available in comic book stores on October 18. Preorder with Diamond item code AUG171072. Party with the heroines of RAVEN in this dance sequence from pages 9-13 in the first issue of YEAR TWO:
