Halle Berry came up in conversation yesterday and the trailer for Kidnap popped into my head.  It is a very effective trailer showing Berry as a mother in a race against time tracking down the person who kidnapped her son.

I’m a huge Halle fan but I don’t usually run out to see her movies.  It’s been five years since the last movie I was truly excited to see her in – that flick being Cloud Atlas.  But Kidnap?  I was generally excited for it.  I think it’s the material – as a parent you never want to see your child disappear.  It is probably one of the biggest fears of being a parent.  So Halle on a rampage to retrieve her kidnapped son?  SOLD!

Except I forgot about it.  And for good reason.  Because in looking up Kidnap the film was supposed to come out March 10, 2017.  It didn’t.  Before that it was December 2, 2016.  Before that May 13, 2016.  And before that it was February 26, 2016.  Believe it or not BEFORE THAT it was originally scheduled for release October 9, 2015.

It’s not like the film has been “shelved.”  They have been planning this film’s release for close to two years so it isn’t like it’s just rotting away somewhere.  I read that Relativity Media, who is releasing the film, ran into some money problems so they kept pushing the film.  The company went into bankruptcy in 2015 but those problems were already dealt with by early last year.

So what’s the hold up?  I’m sure that Kidnap is not going to gross $100 million at the box office but I’m also sure that the film will probably make a decent chunk of change when compared to its production budget.

The only thing I could find on the film is from a press release from production company Lotus Entertainment stating that Kidnap is coming out 2017.  So it seems to be still on the agenda for a theatrical release – it is just a matter of when.

Now that the film is back on my radar I guess I’ll keep tabs on it here (and on Twitter) until Kidnap finally sees some sort of release.  Pulling for you, Halle!!!
